Identify the surface material
Wood boards may be painted, stained, pressure-treated, or heavily weathered. Composite boards vary by brand and material blend. Photographs and a close view of the board edge can help identify what is present.
Look below the boards
A composite surface often sits on wood framing, while some decks use metal components or mixed materials. The supporting structure belongs in the estimate even when the visible boards look uniform.
Check the fasteners
Face screws, hidden clips, corroded hardware, and stripped fasteners change how boards come apart. Do not assume composite boards can be lifted intact.
Keep disposal questions separate
Wood, composite material, metal hardware, and concrete may need different disposal routes. Confirm what the quote includes and whether any material must be separated.
Photograph access and staging
Show the route from the deck to the loading area and where removed material can be stacked without blocking doors, sidewalks, or shared drives.
